Thinking of quitting shampoo? You’ve come to the right place. I stopped using shampoo over three years ago and have never looked back. That’s right, I have not shampooed my hair for three years and my hair grows faster, is softer and shinier, and looks better than ever! Read on to learn how I have gone this long without shampoo and to find my four crucial tips that will help you along on your road to the healthiest hair of your life!
Why did I stop using shampoo?
There are numerous reasons to remove shampoo from your beauty routine. I made the decision when my hair was becoming noticeably less thick and healthy looking compared to when I was younger. I also hated the squeaky clean feeling of my hair after shampooing it. The thought of stripping all of my hair’s natural oil didn’t make sense to me, so I decided it was time to stop. These natural oils are the best hair treatment we could ever hope for, and every time we shampoo we wash those precious oils away. There are so many benefits to not using shampoo. It allows your hair grow longer more quickly, it makes your hair much less prone to breakage, and it helps dry, brittle hair become dramatically softer and frizz-free.
How do you stop using shampoo?
There are numerous “no poo” methods to try and many products that you can use instead of shampoo. I have tested quite a few methods, from apple cider vinegar and baking soda to washing with water only. After many failed attempts, I finally discovered that conditioner only washing (CO-washing) is by far the best method for my hair type (fine and prone to breakage.) By washing with a natural oil-based conditioner, I can gently cleanse my scalp and move any excess oil from the roots toward the tips of my hair. In addition, this method keeps my hair smelling lovely, which is a huge plus!
Tips and Tricks
I encourage all of you to give CO-washing a try! Regardless of your hair type, I am certain you will be able to find a conditioner that works well for you. While it might seem like a difficult change at first, the benefits are well worth it. Plus, if you are currently wash your hair daily you will save a lot of time by making the switch!
